Week 4 - I Saw It

I recall reading I Saw It in a previous class, so my experience reading this again felt familiar. In context of Hillary Chute's essay on the comic, I found the the symbolism of the lily pad pond in the beginning and how they resemble bombs raining down very interesting, as it was not something I really noticed the first time reading it.

This comic is extremely important, especially in the world's situation today. Everyone needs to experience this comic at least once, because it provides a clear picture of what life would be like for people all over the world if we enter into a full-on nuclear war. Many scenes in the comic were rather graphic, specifically those right after the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The gruesome imagery of the melted bodies dragging their skin along the ground as they walk like zombies shortly before they fall to their death horrifically stands out. It makes me think about how different the drawings would be if Nakazawa had experienced the bombing as an adult, being that these illustrations showcase what he saw through the eyes of a child.
